Rose-Colored Match

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am eager to put together all of the little details to complete my dresser. I feel so much better about it now that I have stained the wood and blinged it out with some agate knobs. But now I would like to focus on what I put on the dresser and tie everything together.

I ordered a few items from Urban Outfitters and I absolutely love all of them, however, I’m running into a problem where all of the little pieces just aren’t going together.

ROSE-COLORED MIRROR TRAY WITH WOODEN FRAME

I wanted to upgrade my jewelry tray since I had been using a plastic box that my makeup brushes came in. It totally worked and I’m all about being resourceful, however, it just didn’t jive with my new style. I ended up going with this rose mirrored tray with wooden frame.

WHAT I LIKE:

I like that it brings some femininity to the overall look with the not-overly-rose (I’m not a big fan of pinks) rose coloring of the mirror base.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE:

The wooden frame is totally wrong for this look. Even though the material is consistent, it does not match the shade of my dresser, which makes it look out of place.

PEACHY RING HOLDERS

I also upgraded to these peach colored ring holders from a ring tray.

WHAT I LIKE:

I like that these pieces diversify and add dimension to the space. Instead of overdoing it with tray after tray for everything, I wanted to add an element of height for jewelry storage. I also was pleased with the paleness of the peach color (again, not a pink fan).

WHAT I DON’T LIKE:

As a practical matter, due to the width of the base, they have a limited capacity for storage. I probably would need one more if I had more rings to store.

WOODEN CRESCENT MOON TRAY

I like absolutely everything about this tray. The coloring is perfect and brings out the bohemian and whimsical vibe I was going for. W!

I have concluded that I like each of these pieces too much to start from scratch again. Even though they do not pull the overall look together on their own, I think that with some more dimensions (e.g., the right plant, lighting or coffee table books) they will work together. Additionally, I have decided to stain the wooden frame of the jewelry tray to match the shade of my dresser. I’m going to have to make these items work for me in order to achieve my desired look—and that’s ok. In fact, that’s all a part of the process.
